Want to make the dive into Kayak Fishing? Are you leery of making beginner mistakes? Having a hard time finding dependable information to help get you started? Looking to take your kayak fishing game to the next level? Then you will want to join us at the Midwest Kayak Fishing Symposium. Back after a few years break, MKFS is an interactive informational and educational event for all levels of kayak anglers. People just getting involved in the sport to more seasoned anglers will find something to help them get what all anglers want….chances to catch more fish!

A four-hour interactive seminar and demo paddle. During the event, members of the Rocktown Adventures Fishing Team will present on the following topics. All have them have experience tournament fishing and have done countless modifications and rigging to their kayaks. Take advantage of their knowledge! Each presentation will be 30 – 45 minutes in duration.
Paddling Techniques: Introduction to basic paddling strokes and safety techniques.
River Fishing Techniques: How to navigate and read a river to catch more fish
Tournament Fishing: How to get started, do’s and don’ts, best practices
Kayak Rigging: Options to rig your kayak to fit your fishing needs
In addition to the information, attendees can demo paddle fishing kayaks to learn what fits their kayak fishing needs or decide if kayak fishing is something they want to pursue. Use our experience to ask questions so you can avoid the mistakes we made getting into the sport! We will have rigging accessories and paddles on hand for purchase. As a bonus to the great info and paddling opportunities, attendees will receive a coupon for 15% off kayak accessories. You must attend the event to receive a coupon. Just registering will not qualify.
The MKFS will take place on Olson Lake at Rock Cut State Park. The event will be staged by the dock on the west part of the lake. Due to road construction on the east side of the park, Olson Lake is only accessible from the Harlem Road entrance. You cannot access Olson Lake from the Rte. 173 entrance.
The price for this experience is $20 with half of the proceeds supporting the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance in their mission to preserve bass and its habitat through education and conservation. Knowledge from the seminars, opportunity to test paddle some kayaks and make some casts, meet some new friends, learn about where to go, and receive a 15% off accessory coupon are what you can expect for attending.
Please wear shoes that can get wet. Avoid cotton if you want to go out on the water. It retains water and does not insulate when wet. Fishing pole and tackle if you want to make a few casts. Waterproof jacket if weather dictates.
