Adventure Race Northern Illinois (ARNI) is hosting the Winter Yak-Off Orienteering Race at Rock Cut State Park on February 12, 2022

Race HQ will be the Lone Star Café at Rock Cut State Park, next to the Outdoor Store. This is a six hour Orienteering Race. However do not get discouraged or intimidated by that time length. Besides, six hours in the forest in winter is a good way to spend the day! 

The Winter Yak-Off Orienteering Race is open and welcomes the experienced racer to the newbie, who maybe even does not want to be out there for six hours. This race offers a challenge to expert orienteerers and adventure racers and will be a fun time for the ones that are just looking for some winter adventure. If you have concerns about the 6-hour distance, feel free to come out and race for a few hours before calling it a day. Either way, racers will have fun and challenging experience. And will have earned their favorite beverage of choice!

If you have ever wanted to see what it is like to participate in a FAll fishing tourney…

There are two online fall fishing tournaments coming up in September – And for one of them, you can even fish from shore if you like – No kayak necessary, but you still get the thrill of competing!  

Not only will you get to see what tournament fishing is like, but you will also help good causes as the tournament’s support those who run towards danger, not from it. Information on the events presented by Heroes On The Water and Behind The Lines Foundation can be found in this post. A couple of our Kayak Fishing Team members have a podcast called “Paddle ‘N Fin” that is a great resource for kayak fishing, even info on starting fishing in tournaments. So there is another way for you to get information to help you enjoy your time on the water.

We’re Hitting all rivers in Winnebago County, plus hitting the Fox during our annual Fall Paddling series this October!

Our Fall paddling group outings include all the outdoor equipment you need (or you can bring your own) as well as a refresher on paddling strokes and safety, experienced guides, a relaxed social setting for you to meet like-minded people, and the opportunity to take on new challenges and outdoor adventures. When paddling later in the year, it is important to pay attention to the combined air and water temperature. The baseline is 120 degrees combined. Anything below that, and various levels of protective clothing are required. The good news is we paddle smaller rivers, so we are never far from shore! It is rare that a “swim” occurs, but we need to be prepared just in case. If protective clothing is required due to temps on any of these adventures, we will be sure to reach out to all participants.

Oct. 3: Fox River w/ Kane County Forest Preserve Naturalist 

Oct. 9: Turtle Creek

We will run multiple shuttles for our upcoming Fall paddle outings when group size dictates, so launch time may take a little longer than usual. There’s still two months left in paddle season and plenty of time to experience the outdoors on the water – We hope to see you on an adventure this Fall!
